Secret Keeper

Let's be real, if anyone had a secret that needed to stay a secret - they didn't tell me.  I totally have baby on the brain.  I want to tell EVERYONE!  It doesn't matter if they are my friend, my coworker, my family, or a complete stranger; I want to scream it at the top of my lungs.  I want to whisper it into people's ears and slip tiny hints into conversation until their eyes get big with realization.   Is this fixation with telling a secret even normal?  I have no idea, but I think about it all the time.

This website was posted on another blog that I follow - check it out!

Seven weeks & going strong

I have a new found respect for mothers that can keep their mouth shut & not tell this wonderful secret until 12 weeks.  My husband and I have been cautious, not wanting to tell anyone about Ziggy until the 2nd trimester.  I guess it's that fear of having to un-tell people that drives you to keep things buttoned up.  Alas - we have not been successful! In the last week, we've told our parents & immediate family.  I've averaged about one person a day.  I was actually proud of myself for making it through a complete 24 hour period without telling a new person!  I'm not really sure how long we'll be able to keep it from extended family, friends at church and work.  We're still trying to hold this monster secret in for 5 more weeks.

The catch is that anyone that knows me, or pays the slightest bit of attention to me, would totally be able to call me out.  My belly has gone from this cute little 'I need to lose 20 more lbs budda' to 'OMG lay off the beer gut'.  The mushroom cap billowing from the top of my favorite jeans is driving me crazy.  This is all driven from the fact that there isn't a buffet in the state of Alaska that is safe from an aggressive attack of the bottomless preggo belly.  The side effect of this growing belly & appetite is the exhaustion - it has driven me to nap daily after work.  I haven't had any major morning sickness yet - but I typically feel dizzy and queezy after I eat.  Jason just laughs at me as I flop on the bed, always saying, "This is going to be a long 9 months."

The more exciting news is that we had our 7 week ultrasound yesterday.  Jason sat in on the session - quiet as ever.  I think it's a little early for him, there isn't a hand to catch a football yet.  All looks well, everything measuring out to where it's supposed to be.

I've officially graduated from 'trying to get pregnant' to 'pregnant', getting to move on my from my fertility specialist to an OB.  Now to make those decisions - who will be my OB?  Midwife or Doctor?  Natural birth?  Aaaah... I'm not ready!

Ziggy's first showing

I'm so excited to announce that my first ultrasound turned out great.  I'm right on track, officially measuring at 5w 6d, where I really think I'm really at 6w even!  That still puts my due date on January 13th, 2012.  ***huge grins*** It is so hard to grasp that thought - I'm going to be a mom in 2012!

You can see in the picture above that there's a little something, or actually, my little Ziggy taking his/her first picture ever.  :)  Is it weird to show the world your uterus?  Ohwell - moms have no shame.  Ha ha! The ultrasound technician said it's still very early, but a heart beat can be detected (I saw it flickering on the screen), it was 97bpm.   A heart beat already!

New HCG Levels

My RE called today, and blurted out as soon as I answered the phone, "How do you feel about more than one?"  I kinda stumbled in shock and asked about my latest test results.  She said my latest HCG level is 11,767 on 25 DPO. Then she commented on how she thinks there's probably more than one in there...  I did have two beautiful follicles this month.  There was a chance for two!  (See the average HCG chart & how I'm not in that range in week 5)

It's all so hard to beleive, the previous month, I had four follicles and no success.  Go figure - just another reminder that this is not my timing - it's all in God's timing.

I texted my husband - "Your mom is evil... my HCG levels are off the charts."  My husband's mother is one of the most faithful Christian women that I know, and she's been praying for twins.  Chances are - I'm having twins!  Leave it to a faithful Mother In Law to bring double to joy into our lives.  Ha Ha.

This suspician will all be confirmed on Friday.  Just a few more days & I'll get to see Ziggy and maybe a second little one without a name!

Ziggy

It’s so intoxicating being pregnant!  It’s like have a new passion, I can’t think about anything but this little zygote growing inside of me.  While doing my hourly stalking of various prenatal websites, www.thebump.com popped up with this notice about my the size of my developing fetus.  It made me giggle, so I told my husband – “Our zygote is the size of a poppy seed!” He wittingly retorted, “You and Ziggy have issues…”.   This is my new pet name for the little one growing inside of me – Ziggy.
My blood results are in from 18 DPO – my HCG has gone from 110 to 622 in 4 days.  That’s a doubling rate of 1.6.  For hours I scoured the internet for any indication if this means twins.  The bottom line from everything that I read – no one knows.  I have to wait until my ultrasound.
My viability ultrasound is scheduled for next Friday.  I have to WAIT until next Friday for the next little piece of information about Ziggy.  J  I’m trying to be more patient & enjoy the non-fat pregnancy days – but boy oh boy is it hard.
The temptation to tell people is amazing.  I’ll be chatting with a co-worker that I only see once a month, and secretly thinking, I could tell him.  He doesn’t converse in my circle of friends, it would be okay.  But the un-telling is why we hold it in, right?  Geez, the wait, the excitement, it’s all so much fun!

The big news!

I woke up Thursday morning with tender breasts, and small stabbing pains in my abdomen.  I thought to myself, "quit psyching yourself out".  I think I have a way of making myself feel things.  Can you force yourself to have tender breasts?  Is it possible to imagine early pregnancy symptoms?  Yep, the mind games are amazing.

My blood test was scheduled for later that morning, but the results probably won't get to me until Thursday night.  Can I wait 12 more hours to know?  No way.  I quietly got dressed, dropped my husband at work & drove straight to Walmart to pick up a 3 pack of HPT.

Less than 15 minutes later, in the bathroom stall at work, I carefully peed on the stick, set it down, and waited.  No need to wait really, the 5 seconds that it took for the fluid to soak up to the lines is all that it needed to have two bright lines showing.  TWO LINES!

Last month I saw two lines, but it was one of those tests that need three lines to be positive.  For half a day I thought I was pregnant, later finding out that I was totally wrong.  So, knowing that I'm prone to reading these HPTs wrong - what does a girl do?  I immediately tested again as soon as I had to pee again!  The second test showed TWO LINES!  Yay!

I let it settle in for a few more minutes before going to the doctor's office for a blood test. The doctor's office is the same as usual, go in, sit for a few minutes, have a lab tech take your blood, and be sent on your way.

After the blood test I decided to pick up some lunch and bring it to my husband's office.  The whole time I'm preparing myself how to avoid the topic, and wait to tell my husband after I get the blood test results.  It didn't take him five minutes to ask, "So when do we find out if your pregnant?"  My face turned red immediately, there was no hiding this from him.  He smiled as I told him that I had already taken two HPTs at the office this morning, and that I was waiting until the blood test results to tell him.  It is good news for us both, we're so excited!

The day took forever to get through without telling anyone the news.  But finally, my RE called with the blood test results...  HCG level at 110!  I am pregnant!
